The Orthopaedic Clinic at University Hospital Brno was established in 1978. Under the leadership of department head Prof. Otto Vlach, the clinic quickly established itself as a centre of excellence in spondylosis surgery. Since its inception, the clinic has focused on the treatment of spinal deformities in adults and children. Prof. Vlach and his team of clinicians introduced a system of screening and treating scoliosis in addition to a number of new surgical procedures.
